There are several major, as well as minor guilds of D'ni. Here is a quick look over of each to help your choice. And just a note, any guild member can write an Age, so don't just chose a Writer so you can make the Ages!
When you chose a guild for your new Character, post it here, so we could have a quick reference of who is where.
Major Guilds
The Analysts These guild members are the first to look over the Ages once they have been written. They are the highest trained in the literature of the Ages, and know the language of the D'ni symbols better than many others. Consider these the grammer checkers of D'ni Ages.
Archivists This guild's pride is the organization and keeping of the Ages, especially in the great libraries. They are sometimes the first to notice problems with Ages, and are responsible in physical up-keeping. In literal terms, they are Librarians.
Book Makers These are the people who make the physical kortee'nea, or the blank description book in which Ages are made in. They have their own special factory within the city in which they make the books. The secrets of book making is held among the members of the guild only. Outsiders, not even family members, are to know.
Cartographers They were the official map makers of the D'ni. Members of the Guild worked usually work along side the Surveyors to design tunnels and new parts to the city. They are also the key people who make the maps of the Ages first hand.
Caterers Though the Caterers rarely ever cater, they are the main guild in which takes care of the food supply of the city. This is mostly done by taking care of the three ages in which produces food for majority of the city.
Chemists They are the greatest science guild of most. Unlike others who mostly work along side of the rock, they tend to use mixtures of different chemicals to see what they can do to warp, and work the rock. It is one of the greatest experimentation guilds.
Engineers This guild is the most technologically advanced of all guilds. They are in charge of building the machines against the stone. They are in tow with the Guild of the Minors and Surveyors in the process of building new areas for the D'ni people.
Healers This guild was the guild in which practiced the healing methods of the D'ni people. They both worked on and off the field, creating medicines as well as making house calls to people who were ill in the city.
Ink Makers One of the most important guilds, the ink makers produces the special ink, lehm in which is used to write in the blank books that make the ages. Just like the Book makers, the special process is considered top secret, and only spoken among Ink guild members, and no others.
Legislators This guild was considered the political center of D'ni. They were responsible for recording the minutes of Council meetings, hearings, guild committees and tribunals, and keeping the records of private official communications between Guild Masters. Six thousand years of records were stored in The Great Library of Legislation in the guild Age of Gadar.
Linguists The translators of D'ni, the Linguists specialized in trying to find translations for the languages of those people that were met when linking to worlds. They were the first sent for interaction, and the first to learn about the outer people. They were known well for solving puzzles, and finding simple solutions quickly. Though outsiders were not to know the D'ni language, Linguists were known for understanding several Age languages from practice and translation.
Maintainers The Guild of Maintainers was one of the oldest guilds, and one of the most important. They were responsible for seeing that the laws of D’ni were kept to the letter. They regularly inspected the Ages for stability and safety, and made sure that all was according to D’ni guidelines. They were responsible for destroying any Books that were found to be unstable or defective. They had the Prison Ages in their care. The Maintainer Guild's symbol represented an unblinking eye above an open Book, and has to be placed on every Age after their production, and inspection.
Mechanists The Mechanists are the not only technologically inclined guild with the Engineers, but they are the fix it alls of D'ni society. they create the small devices in which make it easier for the D'ni to live: trap doors, lighting, running water, the fans that circulate the air. THey are also called upon when repairs are needed on mining work, and are considered a very important guild in keeping the city of D'ni maintained.
Messengers The messengers were the specialized force that worked to deliver letters, messages, parcels, and supplies throughout D'ni.
Miners At first, the Miners' guild was only considered a Minor guild, but upon the thought of excavations being done outside of that of D'ni walls, the guild grew into a larger amount with greater need for support. When more members joined, it was made into a Major Guild. They are the explorers of the walls of the D'ni city.
Stone Masons This guild is known to house the people of the rock. They are the people who know the different forms of stone and how they can be used in ways to not only make nara, or the strong stones that form most of the D'ni support, but also different ways in which they can be used in building, as well as mining. They mostly work alongside the miner's guild in the finding of different stones.
Surveyors For the Miners, these are considered their life lines. This guild is specialized in taking every little detail of a project and making sure everything goes smoothly. During mining expeditions, the Surveyors not only help to make vivid maps, but also checks out the stones as well as area in which they dig, and do experiments in order to find if it is safe to continue.
Writers Though the Guild of Writers was held to be the most prestigious of the 18 guilds, they claimed no special privileges nor had a greater voice than any other guild on the Council. Though it was possible for any gifted guildsman to learn the Art of writing Ages, this was the prime function of Guild of Writers. Their Guild Hall was the first to be completed when the D'ni came to their new home on Earth, and it held libraries and book rooms the like of which could be found nowhere else in D’ni.
Minor Guilds
Actors During a time to encourage the arts, the guild of Actors was formed to bring entertainment for the people. Though this guild is not large, due to the fact that many people of society find it unneeded to the D'ni culture, people still present, and watch shows, performed by people of this guild.
Architecture This guild was a break off from the Guild of Stone Masons, promoted during the institution of the minor guilds. This allowed to build more homes for the people that were not just simple stone walls. The Architecture guild prides themselves in not only sturdy, earthquake safe, but also very easy on the eyes.
Arists During a time to encourage the arts, this smaller guild was made to bring art to the people. Another small guild, split from the Major Guild of Fine Arists, these guild members specalize in the arts, mostly in paintings and drawings.
Bankers The Bankers guild was another small guild that was formed. It was not at all known what they did, but it was simply a minor guild of the D'ni culture.
Educators These are the people who teach the common schools, usually the schools that children go to before their times in the guilds. This sometimes helped people who could not make way into a large guild to receive an education, and work in a smaller guild such as the ones listed here.
Illusionists A minor guild not mentioned, it is thought to be broken off from the Major Guild of Fine Artists, who specialize in magic as a form of entertainment.
Musicians Another guild separated from the Guild of Fine Arists, this guild promoted the spreading of music. They not only work alone spreading music about the city, but also do performances and concerts for the people for entertainment.
Sculptors Another art guild in which was broken off from the Guild of Fine Arists. These Arists specialize in the creations of Sculptures, mostly representing people of the D'ni culture and not imaginary objects. Though it is not uncommon to see non-living things created in the stone.
