As some of you may or may not know or care, Myst Online: Uru Live is going to have its plug pulled on April 4. I had the misfortune of finally going ahead and deciding that I was gonna do the 99 cent trial of the game on the day they announced this.
Upon playing it... there are some good things, and some bad things. The game itself is gorgeous, but the plot is rather hole-filled and some of the puzzles are hair-tearingly annoying. I also feel that their pay-scheme really doesn't work - instead of having a monthly fee and sporadic updates, they should have gone with the Guild Wars model and just released a gigantic, stand-alone update once a year that cost about $50. This, I think, would have worked far better than their model of a $10 a month fee to play, especially given Cyan's slow-as-mud release schedule. Still, there's an incredible sense of community which I have found in no other online game, and it IS beautiful.
So...
I want to extend an invitation to you, my friends. On March 4, exactly one month before they pull the plug, I ask that you go ahead, download the game, and get the 99 cent one month subscription to Gametap (if they are still offering that deal. They should...)
That done, I will give you a grand tour of the Ages I've completed thus far, help you get your feet, and introduce you to some of the people I know. I want to share this world with you, before it fades away. Let's go together.
If you're interested, just leave your email address here, and I'll try to use that whole invite-thingy to send you one (so if you get an email from Gametap or Uru Live giving you a number/invite thingy, that's -probably- me) which -should- put you in my 'hood (network) when you get an account. The week before we do this I'll post some n00b-helping instructions and my in-game contact number so you can find me / arrange a time and meeting place that's convenient for everyone.
Cross-posted to my Livejournals.
*If you can't make it the 4th that's also cool, I'm willing to accept anybody any time.
