Telehdan
Written By - Writer's Guild Grand Master Mararon
Original Owner- High Council member Lord Hinahsh, Grand Master of the Guild of Caterers
Current Owner - The Guild of Caterers
Telehdan was an age originally written by the Grand Master of the Writer's Guild for the Grand Master of the Caterer's Guild as a gift. Its dominant flora are huge mushrooms which grow out of the swampy soil of the Age. These mushrooms produce spores which are used to make spore bread, a delicacy among the D'ni.
Though originally owned by the Grand Master of the Guild of Caterers, since the last Grand Master's death it was taken over by the Guild as a whole. Though originally the spores were hand-gathered (adding to their status as a delicacy) the current Grand Master has ordered that the Age be converted for factory production. While the solar powered factory has made the bread more available to the elite upper classes of D'ni, it has caused some significant environmental damage. Certain Caterer's Guild members have voiced concerns that they will soon have to abandon the age due to over-farming.**
Various animals also live on Telehdan, such as the flappers*, round, flat creatures which feed on mushroom spores. Buggaros* are large, flying insects that can be found in the skies of Telehdan. The largest known creatures of the age are the Shroomies*, huge aquatic crustaceans which can destroy whole mushrooms (quite a feat, considering that the largest of these are taller than trees and sturdy enough to be used as buildings!) Shroomies are considered dangerous nuisances by the Caterers, particularly since when threatened they will fight back. The creatures do not like loud noises, however, so the machinery of the age is generally enough to keep them at bay. Even so, a large sea wall has been erected around the main mushroom farming area in order to keep the Shroomies out.
*Note that flapper, buggaro, and shroomie are NOT d'ni words, but rather words used by Douglass Sharper of the D'ni restoration council. If the D'ni originally called them anything the name is lost to time.
**After our game takes place the Age was abandoned. It was later found about a hundred years before the Fall by an independent entrepreneur – sources vary on how he discovered it (some say in an auction, others in a trash heap). He rapidly took over and make quite a living off of the spore bread... but actually used the age as a front for an underground slave ring. The Maintainers discovered this and began quietly investigating the incident, however the Fall occurred before they could take any legal action.
